Frank Reid was born in Glasgow and has been playing Scottish Dance Music on the accordion since he was 15. He formed his first band at the age of eighteen some twenty two years ago. The band in its present form has been playing the Scottish dance circuit for the past 10 years and is the best known Scottish dance band south of the border.
The band has recorded some five LP's for the London Highland Club and three on its own label as well as four recordings for BBC Radio Scotland's Saturday night programme 'Take the Floor'. A current reeling CD is available which also features the Scottish Dance Band of the Black Watch.
Through its association with Furlongs Travel the band has accompanied Scottish dancing enthusiasts on holidays in Denmark, Germany, Holland, Ireland, Canda, France, Italy and in 1991 Australia and New Zealand where it was featured on the National TV news! More recent trips include Canada and the US, New Zealand again, Vienna, Nova Scotia and Prague.
In the mid 90's events included the premiere of 'Four Weddings and a Funeral' , and a solo appearance supporting the Glasgow representatives on 'Come Dancing'. A band TV appearance in 'Roughnecks' was shown in December 1994. 1995 saw the tercentenary celebrations of the Bank of Scotland, and a Duke of Edinburgh Award Ball in the presence of the Royal Family.
In the late 90's the band provided the music for the Leeds Festival of Scottish Country Dancing - the largest event of its kind in the world and also a highly successful 700 people ceilidh dance event at the Whitehall banqueting suite. Two regular St Andrews Night events at Whitehall and Hurlingham demonstrate the band's ability to delight the whole spectrum of Scottish Dancers. Burns Night events see the band playing to 2,500 people within two weeks including the band's longest running engagement for the Society of Scottish Lawyers in London at the Brewery. This event sells out its 480 tickets every year and there is often a waiting list of 200!
In June 2001 two ceilidhs within days of each other went spectacularly well. A corporate summer ball for Linklaters was followed closely by a 300 people ceilidh as part of the Wargrave Festival nr Henley. The tickets sold out on the first day it was announced which speaks volumes about the growing popularity of ceilidh dancing amongst the general public. In August a two piece band hopped over to Stockholm for a Scottish/Swedish wedding.
