The band started in 1986, and the line-up has included many leading traditional musicians from Scotland. The band is currently Freeland Barbour (Accordion), Kevin Macleod (Deering Crossfire Tenor Banjo), Gus Millar (Drums) and Ian Hardie (Fiddle).
The Occasionals play with or without a caller as required - our principal dance caller is Sheila McCutcheon, and on occasion Colin Maclennan may deputise.
Previous notable gigs have included Cambridge Folk Festival, Tonder FF, Orkney FF, Shetland Fiddle & Accordion Festival, Celtic Connections, Mayfest, Edinburgh Festival, Jakarta, Denmark Tour, Aberdeen Hogmanay, National Mods, RSNO Viennese Nights and many more. Regulars on TV and radio, the band's four CDs have been well received, with "Reel of Four" shortlisted for the Scottish Trad Awards "Best Recording 2005", and the band nominated for "Best Scottish Dance Band 2004" .

O'ER THE BORDER, playing primarily for SCD since 1997, but also available for ceilidh dancing, barn dancing, contra dancing or English Country Dancing.
We are Susan Conant (flute, whistles, percussion), David Mullen (fiddle, percussion) and Mike Briggs (piano, accordion, percussion). Occasionally we are joined by Francis Deck on stand-up bass and John Whitehouse on drums.
The border we are o'er, btw, is the Illinois-Wisconsin one.
