The band got together in the early 1990's and have become one of the most highly-regarded ceilidh bands on the scene. This due not least (we think!) to our "no rules" approach to the music. Yes it's Scottish/Irish traditional but draws influences from rock, funk, cajun - anything really. From Jimmy Shand to Rammstein, Fish, AC/DC, Deep Purple, Peter Gabriel, Bach. If it sounds good and feels good - it's in the set. Since we all have quite diverse musical tastes the resultant racket is dynamic to understate slightly. The music's been described as "manic" - from haunting melodies, gallus marches to thundering reels and jigs, nobody can predict what's going to happen next. We like that element of surprise. Worth mentioning too is the fact that we're good at "calling" the dances at our ceilidhs - essential when not everyone in the audience will know the steps. Even for seasoned dancers we still have to give the instructions for some of the more bizarre dances in our repertoire. Okay yah?
So! We play at literally hundreds of weddings, birthday parties, anniversaries, numerous corporate events - like er..really big corporate events. For example we played for the opening of the Scottish Parliament in Brussels. We've played at the weddings of supermodels and film stars for instance Kirsty Hume, Donovan Leitch and John Hannah. We have been World Ceilidh Band Champions (twice). We're not strangers to the Festivals either having played at Celtic Connections, the Islay Festival, Stirling's Hogmanay at Stirling Castle Esplanade (for their Hogmanay celebrations) and T in the Park on 4 occasions.
We've had quite a number of overseas stuff too - to places like Paris, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Brussels, Copenhagen, Moscow, Pisa. Crikey we've even played in England...
It was said by Hunter Farqhuarson from Edinburgh "If Carlsberg made ceilidh bands - they probably wouldn't be as exciting as Last Tram tae Auchenshuggle".
'Twas also said by Tom Shields, Glasgow Herald, "Lads - Don't EVER rehearse - it would spoil it..."

Lost Shores Ceilidh Band formed around 5 years ago when brothers Finlay and Kyle O'Neill, Scottish trad/folkrock fans, decided to speak to their music teachers at high school to see if they could for a school trad band. Lost Shores were an offshoot of the school project, as Finlay's friend Michael joined on accordion, and having already had an interest in Scottish country dancing through the RSCDS summer schools, Michael learned to call the various dances.
5 years on and the lads play regularly for the likes of St Andrews University, Scott Kyle of Outlander fame has been a regular client and supporter of the band, having us along 3 years running for his annual Highlander Fling event. Weddings, fundraisers, hotel ceilidhs, charity events, birthday parties etc have all become the norm as the band continue to develop and learn their craft, playing a lively mix of popular Scottish sets infused with the occasional Irish or continental set.
Band members are Michael Taylor (20, accordion/dance calling), Finlay O'Neill (21, guitar), and Kyle O'Neill (18, drums/percussion/cajon)
